The interactive session focused on exploring how the Ugandan diaspora can be more effectively engaged in national development, while also seeking their valuable input towards the formulation of the National Diaspora Policy. During the dialogue, members of the diaspora called upon the Government to establish clear and accessible platforms for diaspora investments, including diaspora bonds. They further requested Government support for diaspora-led initiatives and the easing of travel restrictions for Ugandans living abroad.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Johnny M. Muhindo, head of the Ugandan delegation, urged the diaspora to remain united and reassured them of Government’s continued commitment to supporting their initiatives. On his part, Mohammed Bagonza, the head of the State House Diaspora Unit and Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs, reaffirmed the President’s dedication to addressing diaspora concerns. He assured the community that the issues raised would be carefully considered and incorporated into the forthcoming National Diaspora Policy. The dialogue was facilitated with the support of the Uganda High Commission in Canada, under the leadership of Ambassador Allan Kajik, who also participated in the discussions.
