In his message, he outlined some of the initiatives the diaspora unit was undertaking to ensure service provision and involvement of the diaspora.
"We have made important strides in leveraging technology to better serve and connect with Ugandans abroad. The Diaspora App will provide a one-stop platform for accessing services, receiving updates, and giving feedback in real-time," said Mr Wabyona.
He added that "We now have a Diaspora Information Management System, a secure platform designed to map and register Ugandans living abroad for informed planning, outreach consular programs and support. To complement these, a dedicated Diaspora Call Centre is being established to ensure prompt response to inquiries, complaints, and emergencies."
"These tools reflect our commitment to real-time engagement, visibility, and accountability."
In his speech, he also said the diaspora unit is also working closely with Missions abroad to bring government services such as National ID registration and renewal and other travel documents closer to Ugandans abroad.
"We are in the process of finalising the formulation of the Uganda Diaspora Policy, a comprehensive framework to formalise diaspora engagement. This policy will ensure that every diaspora voice is counted, valued, and aligned with Uganda's development goals under Vision 2040."
