Discussions focused on several areas of mutual interest, including economic development, Sister City collaboration between Oregon and Uganda, healthcare and social services, education and youth empowerment, as well as policy development frameworks aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation.
During the meeting, Mr Bagonza conveyed warm greetings from H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. He reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to deepening bilateral engagement, expanding investment opportunities, and strengthening people-to-people connections.
He also highlighted Uganda’s strong potential as a destination for tourism and investment, noting the country’s strategic position with access to a regional market of over 300 million people across East and Central Africa.
Mr Bagonza also commended Ms Sylvia Kakyo, a Ugandan diaspora leader in the United States, for her continued efforts in fostering partnerships between the State of Oregon and Uganda, particularly through diaspora-led initiatives that promote collaboration and sustainable development.
Also present at the meeting was Mr Obadiah “Obie” Rutledge, Secretary of the Senate. Senator Manning further hosted Mr Bagonza and his delegation for a tour of the Oregon State Chambers, offering insights into the state’s legislative processes and governance structures.
The engagement marked an important step toward building long-term partnerships anchored in shared values of growth, innovation, and international cooperation.
