“Wherever you go, you carry Uganda with you,” he said, noting that no major incidents involving Ugandans have been recorded in Qatar, a clear reflection of their responsibility and respect for the host nation. He further encouraged them to “develop a strong culture of saving and invest back home for long-term stability.”
In his keynote address, Mr Bagonza commended the Ugandan community for sustaining a positive image of Uganda abroad. He urged them to remain united as the country heads into the 2026 elections.

He emphasised that the Diaspora remains one of Uganda’s strongest pillars of development, noting that the government continues to prioritise their welfare, opportunities, and engagement.

The President of the Ugandan Community in Qatar (UGACOQ), Saul Rayan Aliguma, applauded the Government of Uganda for strengthening collaboration with diaspora communities.

“The Diaspora is not outside Uganda — the Diaspora is an essential part of Uganda,” he noted, adding that the embassy’s openness and partnership with community leadership has ushered in “a powerful new chapter for Ugandans living abroad.”

Aliguma also called on the community to remain united and focused: “Let us not divide ourselves… let us rise together as sons and daughters of Uganda.” He further encouraged stronger bilateral ties, requesting increased investment opportunities, exchange programs, and deeper diplomatic engagement between Uganda and Qatar.

Also present at the convention were Ms Victoria Nabiteeko, Program Officer at the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), and Ms Desree Barlow, Special Presidential Assistant.

The 2nd Uganda–Qatar Diaspora Convention continues Uganda’s commitment to strengthening engagement with its citizens abroad, ensuring that the Diaspora remains a central force in national unity, economic growth, and socio-economic transformation.
