He was accompanied by Ambassador Mohammed Baswari Kezaala, the Deputy Head of Mission in Qatar; Ms Victoria Nabiteeko, Programme Officer with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM); and Ms Desree Barlow, Special Presidential Assistant. Established in 2004, Mowasalat (Karwa) manages Qatar’s public and private transport services, including buses and taxis. The company employs over 18,000 Ugandans, making it one of the largest single employers of Ugandan migrant workers in the Gulf region.
During the visit, the delegation interacted with Ugandan employees, discussed savings culture, labour welfare, and long-term financial planning, and listened to concerns affecting their daily work and well-being.

Mr Bagonza commended the workers for their discipline, professionalism, and contribution to Uganda’s economy through remittances. He encouraged them to remain peaceful, focused, and united, especially as Uganda prepares for the 2026 general elections.

He urged them to avoid being drawn into misinformation or divisive political activity, reminding them that Uganda’s peace and stability, championed by His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni since 1986, must be protected by all citizens, at home and abroad.

The workers expressed heartfelt appreciation for the visit, noting that this was the first time a high-level delegation had reached their facility specifically to check on their welfare and understand the challenges they face. They welcomed the assurance of strengthened support and continuous engagement from the State House Diaspora Unit and the Uganda Mission in Qatar.

The visit to Mowasalat was a key pre-event activity ahead of the 2nd Uganda–Qatar Diaspora Convention, where Mr Bagonza delivered a keynote address on the theme “Doubling Our Efforts in Sustaining a United and Progressive Uganda.”
