Ambassador Amoru applauded Mr. Bagonza for his leadership in strengthening Uganda’s engagement with its citizens abroad, noting that the State House Diaspora Unit has become a central pillar in driving structured diaspora mobilisation, investment facilitation, skills transfer, and remittance optimisation.
The event was also attended by senior government officials, including Ambassador Charles Ssentongo, Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ambassador Kintu Nyago, Deputy Head of Mission in South Africa; and Colonel David Lumumuba, Uganda’s Defence Attaché to South Africa.
In his remarks, Ambassador Ssentongo emphasised the importance of addressing bottlenecks that hinder Uganda’s economic and commercial diplomacy takeoff. He called for closer coordination among missions, the State House Diaspora Unit, and relevant ministries to ensure the diaspora becomes a key driver of national transformation.
The workshop, held from 10th to 13th November 2025, focused on enhancing the capacity of diplomatic staff and honorary consuls to better support Ugandans in the diaspora. Participants were trained on the Vienna Conventions, consular best practices, diaspora mobilisation, and the strategic role of the diaspora in Uganda’s development agenda.
Mr. Bagonza, who delivered the keynote presentation titled “The Role of the Uganda Diaspora in the Social-Economic Transformation of Uganda,” expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed the Unit’s commitment to strengthening diaspora engagement frameworks and ensuring Ugandans abroad remain central partners in the country’s growth.
