National Alliance of Ugandan Canadian Associations launched in Canada
The Head of the State House Diaspora Unit, Mohammed Bagonza, delivered a keynote address and officially launched the National Alliance of Ugandan Canadian Associations (NAUCA) during the Uganda Independence Day celebrations held on October 11, 2025, at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa, Canada.
He was accompanied by his deputy, Henry Wabyona, and joined by His Excellency Ambassador Allan Kajik, the Acting High Commissioner of Uganda to Canada.
NAUCA’s establishment marks a major milestone in strengthening the unity and coordination of the Ugandan community across Canada. The Alliance seeks to bring together all Ugandan associations under one umbrella, promote cultural exchange, and address key issues affecting Ugandans living in Canada.
In his remarks, Bagonza emphasized government’s commitment to enhancing diaspora engagement and ensuring that Ugandans abroad remain visible, connected, and empowered.
Speaking at the same event, NAUCA Chairperson, Justus Mirembe, emphasised the importance of unity and diversity within the Ugandan diaspora.
“Diaspora issues such as visa waivers for Ugandans with foreign passports, high dual citizenship fees and tedious processes, diaspora voting rights, and the National Diaspora Policy have always been at the center of my advocacy,” said Mirembe.
He added that NAUCA represents the first step toward building a unified voice for Ugandans in Canada, one that can advocate for policy reforms and promote initiatives benefiting both the diaspora and Uganda’s national development.
