Outstanding Ugandans in Southern Africa honoured at 3rd COUSA Convention

On Sunday, August 3, 2025, the Head of the State House Diaspora Unit, Mr. Mohammed Bagonza, presented awards to distinguished Ugandans who have demonstrated exemplary leadership and service to their communities in Southern Africa.
The awards ceremony took place during the 3rd Annual Convention of the Confederation of Ugandans in Southern Africa (COUSA), held in Johannesburg, South Africa. The event, which brought together Ugandans from across the Southern African region, serves as a platform to strengthen ties between the diaspora and the Ugandan government, promote socio-economic collaboration, and celebrate community achievements.

Established in 2024, the COUSA Awards were created to recognise individuals and groups across various categories who have made outstanding contributions to the well-being, unity, and development of Ugandan communities abroad. The initiative reflects COUSA’s commitment to fostering leadership, patriotism, and excellence within the diaspora.
In his remarks, Mr. Bagonza applauded the award recipients for their dedication and called upon more Ugandans abroad to become active contributors to Uganda’s development. “You are not just representing Uganda abroad—you are shaping its image, uplifting its people, and playing a vital role in national transformation,” he said.
The 3rd COUSA Convention was also marked by high-level engagements, including a diaspora policy dialogue, national ID registration launch officiated by Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs Hon. Balaam Barugahara, and strategic networking with NRM chapter leaders across the region.
The State House Diaspora Unit reaffirms its commitment to engaging Ugandans abroad and supporting platforms like COUSA that unify, inspire, and empower the diaspora to play an active role in national development.
