“Our role is to strengthen the bridge between our homeland and the diaspora by serving as a dedicated link between MDAs and Ugandans abroad… ensuring every Ugandan has a voice in the nation’s development.”
Mr. Bagonza highlighted key initiatives being undertaken by the Diaspora Unit, including:
-The Diaspora Data Management System for registering Ugandans abroad
-️The Diaspora App, now available on Google Play and the Apple Store
-️A soon-to-be-launched Diaspora Call Centre for timely response to inquiries and emergencies
-️And the National Diaspora Policy, which will formalise diaspora engagement under Vision 2040.
He also commended the community for its role in growing Uganda’s remittances from $1.4 billion to $1.5 billion between 2023 and 2025, describing the diaspora as “a powerful force for socio-economic transformation.”
As part of the convention highlights, the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, launched the National ID registration and renewal drive in partnership with NIRA at the convention.
Mr. Bagonza called upon the diaspora community to transition from remitting funds for household support to engaging in structured national development, especially in sectors such as agribusiness, ICT, tourism, and real estate.
Beyond the speeches, the convention offered unmatched networking opportunities, reconnecting Ugandans through culture, business, mentorship, and collective action. The mood was one of unity, pride, and renewed purpose.
“Let us use this convention not only to reconnect and celebrate but to inspire one another to act, to build, and to give back,” Mr. Bagonza concluded.
The State House Diaspora Unit remains committed to amplifying the voice and impact of Ugandans abroad as vital partners in shaping Uganda’s future.
