The Diaspora Unit is a dedicated unit within the State House of Uganda that works to empower Ugandans living abroad. Our goal is to promote Diaspora engagement, provide access to information and services, and strengthen the relationship between the government and the Diaspora.
OUR MANDATE
Our mandate is to facilitate Diaspora engagement with the government on issues of mutual interest, provide information, coordinate the flow of communication between the Diaspora and relevant government agencies, advocate for the interests of Ugandans living abroad and provide the necessary support and assistance to empower them to contribute effectively.

Our Mission
Our mission is to provide an enabling environment that promotes Diaspora engagement in national affairs and development by providing access to necessary information and services.
Our Vision
Our vision is to establish a highly responsive and effective Diaspora engagement unit that works to empower and promote the positive contributions of Ugandan diaspora in national development.
Our Objectives
- Link the Uganda Diaspora with economic sectors of Interest i.e agriculture, ICT, tourism and banking in liaison with other key players;
- Mobilize Diaspora to increase remittances and invest in Uganda to boost the economy.
- Provide data, analysis, information and coordination on diaspora actions, as well as strengthening access to diaspora initiatives by government.
- Generate relevant information in regard to the Diaspora community for timely interventions by the Government.
- Facilitate Diaspora to access relevant services to enable them carry out various activities.
- Mobilize and facilitate the diaspora to form organizations / Associations through which they can partner with government and other stake holders.
- Collect Diaspora views and liaise with key stakeholders to formulate policies in Favour of the Diaspora population.
- Conduct meetings, seminars and workshops to advocate for Uganda’s interests in the Diaspora through networks building and ensure government is in constant communication with the Diaspora community.
- Establish a coordination center for the Diaspora affairs political, social, economics etc.
- Develop program initiatives aimed at developing and managing relationships with the Diaspora, as an important constituency in the country’s development aspirations.
- Liaise with other partners in ensuring a health diaspora population especially those in the international community.
- Develop information and management systems for greater coordination and strategic partnerships with the diaspora.
- Provide support to the Diaspora to develop projects concepts that strengthen diaspora resource mobilization and utilization.
