President Museveni meets Ugandan diaspora leaders, discusses key policy issues

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, met with leaders of the Ugandan community in Canada, led by Interim Chairperson Justus Mirembe, at his country home in Rwakitura.

The meeting, also attended by the head of the State House Diaspora Unit, SPA Mohammed Bagonza, and his deputy, Henry Wabyona, focused on critical issues affecting Ugandans living abroad.

Discussions covered the establishment of a diaspora fund, visa exemptions, the formulation of a diaspora policy, and the implementation of a diaspora data management system and call centre to enhance service delivery.

These initiatives aim to strengthen Uganda’s engagement with its citizens abroad and streamline support mechanisms for them.

The meeting underlines the government’s commitment to integrating the diaspora into national development efforts, recognizing their contributions through remittances, investment, and international networks.
